Why The Effect You Have On Others Is The Most Valuable Currency

Learn why the most valuable currency we have is the effect we have on the people around us.

“How will you serve the world? What do they need that your talent can provide? That’s all you have to figure out. . . . I can tell you from experience, the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.” –Jim Carrey

At the start of 2015. And I was a writer without a blog. My Instagram account was sitting a steady number of a little over 100 followers. And the follower-count for my Twitter account was sitting at just about the same number.

I started using my social media accounts to spread positivity, inspiration, joy, success, and motivation—to create a positive effect on the lives of others.

I spent less time posting updates on how I was doing, selfies, or pictures of my meals. And I spent more time sharing positive posts that could help my followers in any way possible.

The Effect That You Have On Others Is The Most Valuable Currency There Is

As a result of using this powerful principle, both my Instagram and Twitter account shot up to around one thousand followers each over the next seven months.

And in May of 2015, I decided to take that principle of helping others a step further by launching a motivational blog that has also received about one thousand views to date.

I stopped using technology purely for self-promotion and started using it to spread positivity. By shifting my focus from helping myself to helping others, I gained some success in accomplishing what I was after.

Through this journey, I discovered that The Effect That You Have On Others—more than anything else—Is The Most Valuable Currency there is.

The way that you make others feel, the smiles you put on their faces, the inspiration you stimulate in their minds, the thoughts you bring to their heads, and the changes you create in their lives are the key to unlocking your success.

Once you shift your focus from earning, accumulating, and taking to creating as much of a positive effect on others as possible, you will be well on your way to living your dreams.

Because any and all success is based on value.

All of the success that you will ever achieve in life is based the effect you have on others.

The influence you possess, the status you hold in the world, the respect others have for you, the awards you receive, the praise and adulation that others shower you with, the amount of money in your bank account, the quality of the cars you drive, the number of clothes in your closet, and the number of people who like your posts on social media are all results of the positive effect you have on others.

Every accomplishment, achievement, award, or paycheck you will ever receive is a result of the effect you have on others. And your net worth, more than anything else, is a measurement of the value of your effect on your friends, family, neighbors, community, nation, and planet.

As an entrepreneur, the ultimate test of how much profit your company will produce in any given period is how much value, prosperity, happiness, and well-being your company produces in the lives of your clients or customers.

As a blogger or an author, the ultimate test of how many people enjoy your writing or subscribe to your email list is how much value you contribute to the lives of your readers.

As an aspiring social-media-star, the ultimate test of how many likes, followers, fans, and attention your profiles attract is how much joy, positivity, productivity, motivation, stimulating food for thought, or thought-provoking content your profiles provide to the world.

As Jim Carrey passionately explained to Maharishi’s University Of Management’s Graduating Class of 2014 during his commencement speech, “the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.”

If there is one essential secret for success, it’s that sentence. The effect that you have on other people will always be the greatest measure of your success.

So if you’re looking to go higher in your career, try not to focus on what others can do for you. Focus more on what you can do for others.

Let go of your mantra of earning, accumulating, taking, and getting. And embrace a constant mentality of creating as much of a positive effect as possible in the lives of all of the people around you.

Spread as much love, positivity, happiness, health, well-being, inspiration, motivation, and productivity as you possibly can.

In doing so, you will earn more success you possibly ever could through the traditional mantra of taking.
